Happy 1st Birthday Welly Post!
Launched by newsagent E J Teare last year, Welly Post provides a postal service for Wellington with letters delivered for just 30p – half the price of a first class stamp. It promises guaranteed next day delivery – 6 days a week – for mail received at Teare’s in South Street by 5pm, an extra collection/delivery service for 40p and special rates for businesses and bulk mailing. And, as all mail is delivered either on foot or by bike, there are no environmental costs.
Richard Lettley is the postman. Asked about the success of the service he said, “It’s providing a very useful service for the town, not just for private people but for businesses as well. I travel from Rockwell Green to Chelston – mostly by bike – and have got to know many of our regular customers now. Christmas is busy, naturally, but there’s always mail to be delivered. Garages and local businesses use Welly Post now – and it’s much cheaper for them than the Post Office.”
Welly Post operates throughout the town, including Rockwell Green, Tonedale, Cades Farm and Chelston.
