Heavy defeat for the Chiefs

Tribute Counties Western North: Wellington Chiefs 7pts, Dings Crusaders 2nds 91

Wellington Chiefs suffered a crushing defeat by Dings Crusaders in a one-sided contest at the Athletic Ground yesterday (Saturday).

Player of the month Ashton Cottrell, flanked by Director of Rugby, Allyn Chetland, and 1st XV captain Ollie Price. He received a bouquet from Bloomin Lovely and a voucher from Brew Two.

The visitors, whose 1st XV play in National League One, underlined their strength in depth as they ran in a succession of tries to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The visitors wasted little time in taking control, opening up a 7pts-nil lead before extending their advantage to 26pts-nil after 22 minutes.

There was little respite for the Chiefs as Dings continued to dominate, making it 33pts-nil after 31 minutes and 40pts-nil eight minutes later.

By half-time, the visitors had stretched their lead to 52pts-nil, leaving Wellington facing an uphill battle against their powerful opponents.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Dings continued to pile on the points, moving 69pts-nil ahead before eventually increasing their tally before the final whistle.

To their credit, the Chiefs refused to throw in the towel and were rewarded with a consolation try from Jonny Clist, converted by Alex Davey.
